Health and social care

Middlesbrough faces some of its biggest challenges in meeting the health and social care needs of the population. It has some of the worst indicators of ill health and social stress nationally, as well as marked inequalities between local communities.

Voluntary and community organisations (VCOs) play an important role in meeting health and social care needs and in promoting healthier lifestyles and the mental well-being of Middlesbrough people. Having long provided community-based support and services to complement statutory provision, VCOs are increasingly providing or replacing mainstream services under contract to public bodies.

MVDA supports the voluntary and community sector (VCS) contribution to both the strategic planning and the commissioning of health and social care services in Middlesbrough. Representation on key partnerships and programmes is an important element of the work, alongside leading VCS engagement in new initiatives such as the personalisation of social care services.

MVDA organises the VCS Health and Social Care Forum and Supported Housing Providers VCS Forum.
